By in September 23, 2011 • Filed in: Castle, Sneak Peeks

Warning: Do not read or watch the video if you wish to remain spoiler free!

Take a look at this promo for Monday’s Castle episode where a superhero and super-villain cause trouble for Castle.

Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Beckett (Stana Katic) have dealt with a lot of different criminals through the years, but on this Monday’s episode, they have a very unique threat to face: a superhero!

The episode involves Castle and Beckett investigating the murder of an ex-con, which leads to a bona fide costumed vigilante – one who may be a real life superhero.

IGN has an exclusive promo video for the episode, which features a special comic book visual touch. Check it out below!

This episode, “Heroes and Villains” will also feature a tie-in with the Castle comic book coming next week from Marvel, written by Brian Michael Bendis.

Set Pieces: Kate Beckett’s new loft look in ‘Castle’ Season 4

Fans of “Castle” will have something new to explore on Monday: New York police Det. Kate Beckett’s reimagined loft. When the ABC drama kicked off Season 4 on Monday, Beckett was near death from a gunshot wound and it was to this loft that she retreated after her apartment had been blown up at the end of Season 2. The gung-ho cop returns this season a changed woman — and the vibe of her newly redecorated 1,200-square-foot home reflects that.

“There’s a lot about the space that I think indicates a shift in the character,” said actress Stana Katic, who plays Beckett.

“Castle” production designer Alfred Sole said Beckett’s new loft had been constructed to reflect that she was in a bad place emotionally. Protection is the main theme of the interiors, important for a character who knows someone out there still wants to kill her.

Sole has painted the brick walls and exposed beams with putty-colored Benjamin Moore paint, a color called Indian River, and added faux metal door and window trims in Steel Gray paint from Modern Masters.

“I really enjoy the industrial feel,” Katic said. “After Beckett’s last place exploded, she drew in on herself, creating a lair, a bat cave.”

The new home is defined by carefully chosen retro furniture, such as two school stools that the design team bought at a yard sale. The key to the space, however, is a floor-to-ceiling painting, right, by pop surrealistAlex Gross.

“I love the painting,” Katic said.  “I think it describes Beckett, especially this season. There’s an eclipse happening in the background and everything is crashing around her.”

Sole has used the muted mauves, browns and grays in the painting to set the palette for other furnishings, which include a Saarinen table by Knoll. A pot-bellied stove with glass doors fromRais and a range of lighting from Lamps Plus placed at different heights give the loft its warmth, a balance to the cool industrial minimalism.

Eclectic decorating accents act like whispers from Beckett’s former life: A pop Chinese painting from the Merry Karnowsky Gallery overlooks the kitchen. A farmhouse sink with double faucets sits opposite a Jacobean revival table from HD Buttercup. Sole had the studio metal shop turn the table into an island by adding a cook top and covering the rest of the table with the same patterned metal used in industrial flooring. The glass fishbowl lights are fromLamps Plus. Stairs, below, ostensibly lead to a rooftop garden.

Nothing matches in the cocooned space, and the overall effect is a bit edgy, like the character of Beckett. It’s a place where she will wait for wounds to heal and consider her relationship with a mystery writer named Rick Castle.

Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic and Molly Quinn Talk ‘Castle’

By in September 22, 2011 • Filed in: Castle, Interviews

Castle kicked off its fourth season this week with a flurry of new revelations (Beckett knows about Castle’s three little words!) and a bigger flurry of new questions (who’s that Smith guy?) And yet there’s a part of me that yearns for the fun times of season 3 — you know, when all that happened between Castle and Beckett were teasing, and Alexis was just a little girl…

Well, the Castle season 3 DVD has just hit stores (you can buy it here, like, now!) and it contains, apart from all episodes of the past season, bonus clips and deleted scenes. More on that later. First, let’s talk to Castle, Beckett and Alexis — well, Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic and Molly Quinn — about what we can expect in the fourth season!

Nathan Fillion on why a Castle/Beckett relationship is unfamiliar territory:
Kate Beckett’s an authority figure, but Castle has never had an authority figure in his life. She’s an expert and, in a lot of ways, she’s smarter than he is. He’s not used to that. He really likes this woman, and yet there are all these complications. He doesn’t quite know how to tiptoe around, and he pushes too hard in areas where he ought to leave them alone.

Stana Katic on how Beckett deals with relationships:
I understand that she is a girl who doesn’t want to break up something that’s really great. She doesn’t want to break up a great friendship and a great working relationship. I think any girl in Beckett’s situation would probably make the same choice.

Molly Quinn on her similarities to Alexis Castle:
I would love to say that I’m like Alexis in that [I never seem to get in trouble], and I guess I am a bit — but I’m not totally like Alexis. One reason Alexis doesn’t rebel and do all these things is because she’s worried to death about her dad. He really scares her, especially right now when he’s involved in all these crazy murder cases.

Nathan Fillion on Castle’s relationship with Martha and Alexis:
I think one of the really neat things about Castle is that he’s not very macho. He’s not very swagger manly. He’s more boyish than anything as he’s never had an opportunity to grow up. At one point I remember — and this was one of those wonderful times when we could collaborate with the writers — Castle was apologizing to Alexis for blowing on something, and I came up with the lines saying, “Be patient with me. Be forgiving. I’ve never been a dad to a teenage daughter before.” And I think that part of Castle’s truth is that he doesn’t know what he’s doing. He’s just doing the best he can, but he has a good heart.

Stana Katic on what she liked about Kate Beckett:
I like the way that Kate is imperfectly perfect. She doesn’t always make the right choices, but she will try to. When she doesn’t make the right choice, for whatever reason, she wants to get it right in the end … I like it when a person fails by accident, but they then try to step up to the plate in order to try and fix things. Kate always tries to do better. She always tries to improve.

Molly Quinn on being a role model to other teens:
I try to be a good example for girls my age because I know how difficult it is. There are so many distractions, like boys and parties, and it’s really difficult to compartmentalize what you want to do whilst having fun at the same time. I try to find a healthy balance. It’s tough, but I think I’ve got there now.

Castle Spoiler: The Latest From MegaBuzz

Warning: Do not read below, if you wish to remain spoiler free!

Loved the Castle premiere, but there’s no way Castle can keep Beckett from digging into her mom’s murder, is there? — Deb
ADAM:
Not according to Stana Katic. “Beckett is relentless,” she says, insisting that Beckett’s brush with death will only fuel her fire. “[If] Beckett sees a challenge, she’s going to run at it head on. If there’s a wall in her way, she’s going to break it down. She going to take it down brick by brick if she has to… and she’ll risk her own life doing it.” Guess that means Castle may eventually have to come clean about his mysterious phone call in the premiere. Did someone say “powder keg”?

Video: Stana Talks Season 4

By in September 19, 2011 • Filed in: Castle, Video

Warning: Spoilers!

For “Castle” fans, Monday’s (Sept. 19) premiere is possibly the series’ most-anticipated episode yet.

Season 4 picks up with Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) clinging to life after her cliffhanger shooting, and though we won’t say exactly what happens to her character, Zap2it did recently speak with the actress on the show’s set. (Read into that what you will, spoiler-phobes.)

So what did Katic think of her character’s near-death experience? “I loved it,” she says. “I thought by reaching for higher stakes, by reaching for deeper truths, we were challenging the show to become an even bigger and better version of itself… I thought it was a great way to go.”

With Kate juggling even more baggage than before, and still on the hunt for her mother’s killer, it’s also clear to Katic what it will take for her and Castle (Nathan Fillion) to finally get together.

“Beckett’s always known that she’s been in love with him,” Katic says of the series’ big will-they/won’t-they relationship. “I think she is going to become extremely aware of the fact that until she is able to lay this burden, this baggage, to rest, she’s not going to be able to fairly engage in any relationship… That’s her biggest secret, I think, this year. Before she dives in with him, she has to close that chapter and make sure she’s whole and available to a real relationship.”

For more of Katic’s musings on Season 4, including a sneak peek of the Halloween episode, butting heads with the new captain (Penny Johnson Jerald) and more on the series’ main, ongoing mystery, watch our full video interview.

And tune into the Season 4 premiere of “Castle,” Monday at 10:00 p.m. ET.
